One Man's Trash is Another Man's Treasure: Crazy Dumpster Finds

    Last updated 5 days ago

Dumpster diving, a recreational activity with practical applications, is one of those topics that incites a variety reactions when it is brought up in conversation among friends or colleagues. Some people find dumpster diving exciting and tout its environmental benefits. Others find it repulsive and swear that they would never try. Regardless of which side of the dumpster diving camp you most identify with, you may be fascinated to read about these incredible dumpster finds:

    Off-Track Betting Stubs

One New York resident has found a way to make a living off of rifling through trash cans, looking exclusively for off-track betting ticket stubs. He works full-time picking through trash, but he manages to make a decent living, having earned half a million dollars in the last decade.

    Major Motion Picture Screenplays

New Moon is out on video now, but when a St. Louis beauty salon owner looked through a local trash bin, she found the scripts to the Twilight series’ New Moon and another film called Memoirs. Upon returning the scripts to Summit Entertainment LLC, the woman was invited to attend the premieres of both films.

    100 Grand

Three highway workers in Indiana noticed U.S. currency sticking out of a tire when cleaning up a pile of trash along the highway. Upon counting out the cash, the workers discovered it totaled $100,000.

    Material Gestures of Love

Searching through the garbage behind a floral shop is almost sure to result in finding some flowers that hardly look wilted at all. On a more valuable note, dozens of diamond rings and wedding bands have been found in dumpsters around the country as well.

    Food For Life

People like Jeremy Seifert, the director of a documentary called Dive!, can subsist entirely on food found in the trash, if they so choose.

Although dumpster-diving is illegal in the State of Texas, there’s another way to find savings in the trash—Tiger Sanitation can offer garbage and recycling collection at a great price. If you are a resident or commercial property owner in the greater San Antonio area who is looking for a reliable garbage collector, call us at (210) 305-4759.

Knowing What Can and Can't Be Recycled

    Last updated 12 days ago

The goods you purchase from supermarkets, retail stores, and online vendors come in a variety of packaging types. This can sometimes make it difficult to know which containers you should place in a recycling bin and which materials you should throw away. In order to avoid double handling of recyclables and waste products and the contamination of genuine recyclables, you should familiarize yourself with the waste removal and recycling regulations in your municipality. While it is important to refer to and follow your local recycling code, this article can provide you with an overview of the materials that are almost universally recyclable and those which cannot be recycled anywhere.

    What can be recycled?

    • Aluminum and tin cans: Soda pop cans and tins that food was canned in should be rinsed before they are tossed in the recycling bin, but they are likely recyclable in your area.
    • Paper: Almost all paper products, including magazines, newspapers, scrap paper, promotion flyers, file folders, phone books, and textbooks, can be recycled, even if they have staples, paper clips, or spiral wire binding on them.
    • Cardboard
    • Aerosol cans
    • Specially-marked plastics: Mass-produced plastics are imprinted with numbered triangles. Plastics numbered “1” or “2” are recycled in most American cities. Check with your waste collection and recycling service to see if any other plastics can be recycled in your area.
    • Glass bottles

    What cannot be recycled?

While none of the following products are recyclable, they can be donated and reused if they are still in good condition.

    • Drinking glasses
    • Windows and mirrors
    • Ceramics and cookware
    • Light bulbs
    • Crystal

This is for the gentlemen that have my route. Last Thursday I dropped my ID badge on the ground.  I am assuming you are the ones that picked it up for me and put it on my gate.  I am so grateful.  There were a lot of important badges together in that holder and it would have been such a hassle to have it all...
